Antique Sale

If you are looking for a fun rainy day activity this weekend,  it is definitely worth your time to check out this great big antique sale in south Eureka.  Just north of the big hammer at Pierson's, and past Hilflicker on the same side, right on Broadway, inside of an old car dealership.
There is a little bit of everything from costume jewelery to linens, furniture and a lot of cool antique and vintage toys.  Fair prices and friendly helpful vendors make this a fun destination for the rainy weekend!
I am not too sure about the hours for tomorrow and Sunday but today it was open 9-3.

FYI...

I was called by my sixth sense to my favorite thrift store today, the Discovery Shop in Henderson Center.  I always listen to that little voice in my head and was certainly not disappointed today.
The first thing I saw, to my utmost delight, was a whole rack of cashmere!  The good stuff from Scotland.  This alone will keep me singing for at least the rest of the day, but that was not all.  Upon further inspection (all the way in the back) I came upon a rack dedicated to vast yardage of beautiful wool.  I am talkin' 10 yards for $20 like four times over.  Awesome!
The cashmere was well priced, but still on the steep side.  All of the profits go to cancer research so I splurged, and what I am really excited about if my new found inspiration and courage to finally take scissors to the cashmere treasures sitting in my closet.  I will keep you posted.
I would head down soon, these deals won't last.

Sew Fine Fashion Redesign Call for Entries!

Below is a very crafty event we came across calling for designers to transform thrift store finds into creative fashions as a benefit for Arcata and Rooney-McKinleyville Children's Centers.  Thrifting and sewing, two of our favorite things combined in one fashion show!  There is a Sew Fine Fashion Redesign Facebook page for the event and entry forms can be obtained by calling the contact number below or you can e-mail us at craftymavericks@gmail.com and we would be happy to e-mail them to you.

Call for entries!!
Crafters, sewers  and designers this is your time to shine!

We invite designing minds from the community to transform local thrift store clothing into renewed pieces!  The donated items then will be modeled at the fashion show, displayed in a local thrift store window and auctioned via silent auction with the proceeds going to support Arcata-Rooney McKinleyville Children’s Centers which is a local non-profit  providing low cost or free childcare to families in Humboldt county.  All ages, male and female are encouraged to participate.
How it works:
Buy a dress or outfit from a local thrift store, get out your sewing machine, redesign, revamp or tweak to transform a low-budget piece using the best of your creative magic to give it new life.  Complete the entry form, include before and after pictures and turn in your outfit to ARMCC by the deadline.  Then see your outfit displayed in a local store window, followed up with a fashion show and auction
event.

Design submission deadline is April 14th, 2011. The runway fashion show will take place on April 23rd, 2011, at Azalea Hall in Mckinleyville.

Arcata & Rooney-McKinleyville Children's Center is a non-profit agency providing low cost quality children's programs to families in Humboldt County since 1977.  CCL license #'s 121371681, 121372476, 121306190.
